Description

Potassium Ferrocyanide, also known as Potassium Hexacyanoferrate(II), Tetrapotassium Ferrocyanide Trihydrate, and Yellow Prussiate, is often available as Trihydrate of Potassium Hexacyanoferrate(II) having the chemical formula K4Fe(CN)6-3H2O or C6H6FeK4N6O3. It appears as odorless lemon-yellow crystalline granules or powder and is soluble in Water at ambient conditions. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Hydrogen Cyanide (Hydrocyanic Acid), and Heavy metals. It can be produced on an industrial scale by reacting Hydrogen Cyanide, Ferrous Chloride, and Calcium Hydroxide. This leads to the formation of Ca2[Fe(CN)6]-11H2O, which is then combined with Potassium salts to precipitate the mixed Calcium-Potassium salt CaK2[Fe(CN)6]. This salt is finally treated with Potassium Carbonate to give the final product. Lab grade chemicals possess reasonable purity but do not comply with any official standard for quality or purity like the ACS Grade, the USP Grade, or the FCC Grade. The Lab Grade is also known as Laboratory Reagent (LR) and Chemically Pure (CP). Lab Alley’s Potassium Hexacyanoferrate Trihydrate, Lab Grade or Potassium Ferrocyanide Trihydrate, Lab Grade is recommended for educational institutes and research labs.
