Magnesium Carbonate, also known as Magnesium Carbonate Basic Pentahydrate, Magnesium Hydroxycarbonate Pentahydrate, Magnesium Hydroxy Carbonate Pentahydrate, and Carbonic Acid, is commonly available as basic pentahydrate of Magnesium(2+) Carbonate having the chemical formula C4H12Mg5O19 or (MgCo3)4-Mg(OH)2-5H2O. It appears as white odorless air/moisture sensitive powder and is insoluble in Water at ambient conditions. Upon heating, it may release Carbon Oxides or other toxic vapors as the decomposition products. It’s a key source of Magnesium that can easily be converted to other Magnesium compounds, such as the oxide by heating (calcination).
