About Magnesium Carbonate, USP Grade
Magnesium Carbonate, also known as Magnesium Carbonate Basic Pentahydrate, Magnesium Hydroxycarbonate Pentahydrate, Magnesium Hydroxy Carbonate Pentahydrate, and Carbonic Acid, is commonly available as basic pentahydrate of Magnesium(2+) Carbonate having the chemical formula C4H12Mg5O19 or (MgCo3)4-Mg(OH)2-5H2O. It appears as white odorless air/moisture sensitive powder and is insoluble in Water at ambient conditions. Upon heating, it may release Carbon Oxides or other toxic vapors as the decomposition products. It’s a key source of Magnesium that can easily be converted to other Magnesium compounds, such as the oxide by heating (calcination). A USP Grade chemical is the one that conforms to the criteria of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). A substance that has received the USP Grade certification can be used in food, drug, or medical applications.
