Potassium Ferrocyanide, also known as Potassium Hexacyanoferrate(II), Tetrapotassium Ferrocyanide Trihydrate, and Yellow Prussiate, is often available as Trihydrate of Potassium Hexacyanoferrate(II) having the chemical formula K₄Fe(CN)₆-3H₂O or C₆H₆FeK₄N₆O₃. It appears as odorless lemon-yellow crystalline granules or powder and is soluble in Water at ambient conditions. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), Hydrogen Cyanide (Hydrocyanic Acid), and Heavy metals. It can be produced on an industrial scale by reacting Hydrogen Cyanide, Ferrous Chloride, and Calcium Hydroxide. This leads to the formation of Ca₂[Fe(CN)₆]-11H₂O, which is then combined with Potassium salts to precipitate the mixed Calcium-Potassium salt CaK₂[Fe(CN)₆].
