Sodium Metabisulfite possesses a faint sulfur odor and appears as a white crystalline solid or powder. It produces a corrosive acid when mixed with water and can cause irritation to skin and other tissues in the human body. At elevated temperatures, it can break down into hazardous sulfur and oxide gases. It is certified as Lab Grade due to the presence of impurities. Lab grade chemicals possess reasonable purity but do not comply with any official standard for quality or purity.
