Triton X-114, also known as Polyethylene Glycol Tert-octyphenyl Ether, Phenyl-polyethylene Glycol has the chemical formula C14H22O. It appears as a viscous colorless liquid with a weak odor. It is soluble in Water and Ethanol at ambient conditions. It is a nonionic detergent used for research and development purposes such as the separation of intrinsic membrane proteins. It is homogeneous at O°C but phase separation occurs above 20°C into the aqueous and detergent phase.
