Magnesium Carbonate, also known as Magnesium Carbonate Basic Pentahydrate, Magnesium Hydroxycarbonate Pentahydrate, Magnesium Hydroxy Carbonate Pentahydrate, and Carbonic Acid, is often available as basic pentahydrate of Magnesium(2+) Carbonate having the chemical formula C4H12Mg5O19 or (MgCo3)4-Mg(OH)2-5H2O. It appears as white odorless air/moisture sensitive powder and is insoluble in water at ambient conditions. Upon heating, it may release Carbon Oxides or other toxic vapors as the decomposition products. It’s a key source of Magnesium that can easily be converted to other Magnesium compounds, such as the oxide by heating (calcination). Chemicals in the Reagent Grade category have high purity and are best suited for analytical purposes. They're useful in research investigations as they produce consistent, trustworthy, and repeatable findings.
