Potassium Iodide, also known as Potassium Salt of Hydriodic Acid, Iodic Acid Potassium Salt, Potassium Monoiodide, and Knollide, has the chemical formula KI. It appears as violet-black crystals with a metallic luster, sharp odor and is soluble in Water at ambient conditions. Potassium Iodide is a salt of stable (non-radioactive) Iodine that can protect the thyroid gland from radiation injury by preventing the absorption of radioactive iodine. The thyroid gland is the most radioactive Iodine-sensitive organ in the human body and needs appropriate protection. An ACS Grade reagent is a chemical that meets the purity requirements of the American Chemical Society (ACS). It is generally equivalent to the Analytical Reagent Grade. For dependable, consistent, and repeatable findings, ACS Grade reagents can be utilized in high-quality research labs.
