Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), Lab Grade from Lab Alley, is of high quality and purity percentage, appropriate for use in most laboratory and analytical applications.
Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), also known as 2-butanone, is an essential commercial chemical that is used and produced in large quantities for a wide variety of purposes. MEK undergoes several reactions, such as the condensation of aldehydes to form higher molecular weight ketones, cyclic compounds, and ketals.
It is a flammable chemical, colorless with an acetone-like odor. It is miscible in water, soluble in alcohol, ether, acetone, and benzene.
The primary use of Methyl Ethyl Ketone is as a solvent for protective coating in cellulose manufacture, acrylic resin and vinyl polymer production, many extraction processes in the chemical and petroleum industries, fingernail polish, adhesives, printing inks, and paint removers, for the extraction of hardwood pulping and vegetable oil, in pharmaceutical and cosmetics production.
MEK is also used for the dewaxing of lubrication oils and the production of magnetics tapes. It is a chemical intermediate in several reactions, including condensation, halogenation, ammonolysis, and oxidation.
