It is safe to rinse your mouth and gargle with a 3% household solution to remove mucus and treat cold sores, periodontal disease and gingivitis but it should never be swallowed. Some American citizens buy 3% hydrogen peroxide solutions in bulk from Lab Alley so that they can mix it with sodium bicarbonate to make their own toothpaste.
The 3% pharmaceutical grade hydrogen peroxide sold at supermarkets and drug stores contains stabilizers and should not be ingested. These 3% solutions are used safely to treat acne by removing dead skin cells and to treat minor burns, scrapes and cuts. Solutions greater than 3% to 6% should not be used on the skin. The 6% hydrogen peroxide solutions used by beauty shops is not safe for ingestion. Hydrogen peroxide used to bleach hair is normally a 6% or 10% solution. Hydrogen peroxide is used to treat ear infections and for oral health.
3% and 6% solutions are excellent for cleaning cupboards and cabinets that are used to store utensils and dishes. The 3% hydrogen peroxide solution sold by Lab Alley is used by hospitals to kill and prevent the spread of multiple-drug-resistant bacteria.
The 30% hydrogen peroxide solution (Reagent Grade) is used by laboratories to conduct scientific experiments. It contains stabilizers, and absolutely should not be used internally. Use Hydrogen Peroxide 30% to make solutions for the induction of apoptosis.

About Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, is a clear, colorless liquid, molecular weight 34.01. It is almost always sold as a water solution rather than pure, since concentrated H2O2 on its own is genuinely unstable. Left alone, it breaks down into water and oxygen, and heat, light, or trace metal contamination speed that up considerably. That is why higher concentrations need cool, dark storage, and why some grades carry stabilizers to slow the decomposition. It is a strong oxidizer, classified DOT Class 5.1, and anything above 20% ships under tighter rules than the lower strengths.

What's the difference between Lab Grade and Food Grade hydrogen peroxide?
Lab Grade has decent purity, no ACS, USP, or FCC compliance behind it, good for research and general cleaning, not food related work. Food Grade meets Food Chemical Codex standards, skips stabilizers entirely, and carries Kosher and Halal certification. That combination is what makes it the grade for food processing, agriculture, and personal care.
What does the percentage of hydrogen peroxide actually mean?
H2O2 by weight, water for the rest. 3 percent is drugstore strength, fine for minor cuts and surface cleaning. 10 to 15 percent handles hair bleaching and stronger cleaning jobs. 25 to 34 percent is where laboratory, electronics, and industrial work happen, once you actually need a strong oxidizer.
Do I need a permit to buy hydrogen peroxide?
No, not at any concentration we sell. It ships as a DOT Class 5.1 hazardous material, and anything above 20 percent follows tighter packaging rules, but there is no TTB permit or anything like it involved.
Which hydrogen peroxide products are Kosher or Halal certified?

Which grade should I use for electronics cleaning versus a lab experiment?
Wafers, photoresist removal, circuit board etching: that is Semiconductor/Electronic Grade 30 percent territory, built for low metal content. General lab experiments and reagent work can run on ACS or Lab Grade, ACS specifically when a procedure names it.
How does hydrogen peroxide compare to isopropyl alcohol for disinfecting?
Different mechanisms entirely. Hydrogen peroxide oxidizes organic matter and breaks down into water and oxygen. Isopropyl alcohol dehydrates and denatures, then evaporates rather than decomposing. Peroxide usually needs a bit more contact time, but it skips the flammability concerns that come with alcohol.
