Which grade does your method need?
Grade sets the purity and the tests behind the COA. Match it to what your method, SOP or instrument calls for — and save higher grades for the work that needs them.
See our certifications →| Grade | What it means | For nutrient blending | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACS | Meets American Chemical Society reagent specifications | Yes | Titration, wet chemistry, standards |
| Reagent | High purity for general lab use, specs on COA | Yes — check COA | Buffers, general bench work |
| HPLC | Low UV absorbance and residue for chromatography | Yes | HPLC mobile phases |
| LC/MS | Low metal ions and background for mass spec | Yes | LC/MS mobile phases |
| USP/NF | Meets pharmacopeia monograph for identity and purity | Yes — check COA | Compendial tests, pharma QC |
| Semiconductor/Electronic | Low trace metals and particles for cleanroom work | Yes — check COA | Trace metals, cleanroom processes |
| Lab/Technical | Lab or industrial purity for non-critical uses | No | Cleaning, rinsing, teaching labs |
What lab managers check before they buy
- Assay & grade
- Purity and grade on the COA must match what your method or SOP specifies.
- Water content
- Moisture skews Karl Fischer and water-sensitive reactions; anhydrous grades list maximum ppm H2O.
- UV cutoff & residue
- For HPLC, low UV cutoff and evaporation residue keep baselines flat and peaks clean.
- Trace metals
- Metals analysis and LC/MS need low background; check the lot COA for limits.
- Lot traceability
- Lot-specific COAs let you document reagents for notebooks, audits and method validation.
Documents for your lab records
Storage, handling and disposal requirements vary by chemical and site. Confirm requirements with your lab safety officer or EHS team.
From one bench to the whole lab
Order a pint to validate a new method, then move routine solvents to gallons or drums. Same grade and documentation at every size.
R&D/Laboratory buyer questions
What's the difference between ACS and Reagent grade?
ACS grade meets American Chemical Society specifications for that chemical. Reagent grade is high purity for general lab use. For both, check the lot COA against your method.
Which acetonitrile should I use for LC/MS?
Use LC/MS grade for mass spec detection, where low metal ions and background matter. HPLC grade suits UV detection.
Can I get a COA for each lot?
Yes. A lot-specific Certificate of Analysis and the SDS are available for every product.
Do you sell anhydrous solvents?
Yes. Anhydrous acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol, DMF and other solvents are available, with maximum water content listed in ppm.
Can chemicals ship to a home address?
Some chemicals ship only to commercial addresses. If you are unsure about a product, call customer care at 512-668-9918.
Do you accept purchase orders and net terms?
Yes. We accept purchase orders, and net terms are available through a credit application. Federal buyers can also order through GSA Advantage.
