Organic Ethanol, USDA Organic, Kosher & Halal, 190 to 200 Proof | Lab Alley

Organic Ethanol

USDA Organic, FCC food grade ethanol from sugar cane, corn, and wheat, in 190 and 200 proof, in stock and ready to ship.

When a customer, or a regulator, asks what's actually in your product, "organic ethanol" needs to hold up. Sourcing it usually means choosing between a supplier that treats organic as a marketing label and one that can back it with real USDA Organic and Kosher or Halal paperwork.

Lab Alley's organic ethanol is fermented from certified organic sugar cane, corn, or wheat, priced and in stock online at 190 or 200 proof, so you can order without a quote call. It's undenatured and FCC food grade, which means no TTB permit or denaturant paperwork, just an SDS and COA with every shipment. Sugar cane and corn grades carry Kosher, Halal, and USDA Organic certification; the wheat grade is Kosher certified and FCC food grade, so check the certification that matters for your formulation before you order.

Lab Alley USDA Certified Organic Ethanol 200 and 190 Proof

Our Organic Ethanol meets the standards for USDA Organic certification, which restricts the use of bone char in processing, as well as the types of pesticides/fungicides permitted during farming. It is also certified as food grade by the FCC (Food Chemical Codex). Labels such as organic and vegan are becoming more important to consumers because it helps to keep them in touch with the entire life cycle of their food.

Lab Alley range includes Organic ethyl alcohol made from organic sugar cane and organic corn.

Sugar cane alcohol requires less preparatory steps because sugar is readily broken down by yeast, and therefore has a lower risk of non-water biproducts of fermentation. Consequently, the production of 95% ethanol from sugar cane is a relatively efficient process compared to other substrates and other concentrations.

Corn is a starch, a complex carbohydrate, and does not readily enter the fermentation without pre-treatment. Careful pre-treatment minimizes the byproducts produced during fermentation, so that fewer additional purification steps are required in post-fermentation. Yeast has a relatively low tolerance for ethanol, and die off as concentrations rise. The fermentation product must then be distilled to remove water and other organic impurities.

Lab Alley is proud to be a top Organic Ethanol supplier at competitive prices.

About Organic Ethanol

Organic ethanol is ethanol (C₂H₆O) fermented from a certified organic feedstock and processed without bone char or prohibited pesticides and fungicides, meeting USDA Organic standards. It's undenatured, so it's chemically identical to any other food grade ethanol, just produced and documented to a stricter agricultural standard. Lab Alley's organic ethanol is FCC (Food Chemical Codex) food grade and available at 190 proof (95%) and 200 proof (100%), fermented from sugar cane, corn, or wheat.

COMMON APPLICATIONS

Organic ethanol is used in skincare and personal care formulation, botanical and herbal extraction, tincture making, perfume and fragrance work, and as a general reagent and solvent where an organic-certified alcohol is required.

GRADES EXPLAINED

The feedstock affects how the ethanol is produced, not its final purity. Sugar cane ferments readily, since sugar breaks down easily for yeast, so sugar cane organic ethanol involves fewer processing steps and fewer non-water fermentation byproducts. Corn is a starch that needs pre-treatment before fermentation, and the fermentation product still has to be distilled to remove water and other organic impurities, which is why corn ethanol comes in both 190 and 200 proof. Wheat organic ethanol follows a similar path to corn and is offered as a lower-cost FCC food grade option, though it's currently Kosher certified only, not Halal or USDA Organic like the sugar cane and corn grades, so it's worth checking product-level certification before you order for a compliance-sensitive use.

TYPES & GRADES AT A GLANCE

Ferments with fewer byproducts and is a common pick for skincare and personal care formulation.
Is a versatile grade for botanical extraction and general reagent use.
Is anhydrous, for formulations where any water content is a problem.
Is a lower-cost FCC food grade option, Kosher certified but not currently Halal or USDA Organic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between organic ethanol and regular food grade ethanol?
Organic ethanol is fermented from feedstock grown without prohibited pesticides and fungicides, and processed without bone char, meeting USDA Organic standards. Regular food grade ethanol only has to meet FCC food-grade purity requirements, with no restriction on how the feedstock was farmed. All of Lab Alley's organic ethanol is also FCC food grade, so it meets both standards at once.
What does 200 proof mean versus 190 proof organic ethanol?
Fermentation alone tops out around 95% ethanol, so 190 proof organic ethanol comes straight from distillation with water making up the rest. 200 proof, currently available in our organic corn grade, has that remaining water removed for applications where any water content is a problem. 190 proof works for most extraction, skincare, and reagent uses at a lower cost.
Do I need a permit to buy organic ethanol?
No. Organic ethanol is undenatured, tax-paid, food grade alcohol, so there's no TTB Industrial Alcohol User Permit or SDA formula paperwork involved, unlike our denatured or specially denatured ethanol. You can order it the same way as any other in-stock chemical.
Which organic ethanol products are Kosher, Halal, or USDA Organic certified?
Our Sugar Cane 190 proof and Corn 190 and 200 proof organic ethanol are Kosher, Halal, and USDA Organic certified. The Wheat 190 proof grade is Kosher certified and FCC food grade, but isn't currently Halal or USDA Organic certified, so check the product page if that certification matters for your use.
Can organic ethanol be shipped to a residential address?
No. Like our other flammable chemicals, organic ethanol can only ship to businesses, schools and universities, or laboratories. If a residential address is used at checkout, we'll remove the item from your order before it ships, so use a commercial or institutional address to avoid delays.
Which feedstock and proof should I use for skincare versus extraction versus food-related work?
Sugar cane organic ethanol ferments with fewer byproducts and is a common choice for skincare and personal care formulation. Corn organic ethanol at either proof suits general botanical extraction and reagent use. Wheat organic ethanol is a lower-cost FCC food grade option, but confirm it doesn't need Halal or USDA Organic certification for your application before ordering.
How is organic ethanol different from our denatured or SDA ethanol?
Organic ethanol is undenatured and meets USDA Organic standards on top of FCC food-grade purity, making it suitable for food, skincare, and ingestible applications. Our denatured and Specially Denatured (SDA) ethanol both have a denaturant added specifically to make them unfit for those uses, and SDA also requires a TTB permit for larger orders. If your process needs contact-safe, food-grade alcohol, organic ethanol is the right category.
Can I buy organic ethanol in drums or totes?
Yes. Several organic ethanol grades ship up to 55-gallon drums, and select corn and sugar cane grades are available in 264 to 275-gallon totes. Not every proof and feedstock combination stocks every size, so contact us through Bulk & Custom Chemicals to confirm availability and get volume pricing.
