Description

Aluminum chloride, or trichloroaluminum, is an inorganic compound having the formula AlCl 3 . It appears as a white crystalline solid at ambient temperature. It is a corrosive substance that reacts violently with water and is non-explosive/non-flammable in nature. Anhydrous Aluminum Trichloride, which is utilized as a Lewis base in a variety of chemical applications, is the most common Lewis acid. Pure Aluminum Chloride is available in white color, but it turns yellow or grey upon exposure to air or contamination with other compounds, such as Iron Trichloride.
