Lactic acid may exist either as a white solid in pure form, or a clear to yellowish liquid when dissolved in water. It can be produced via fermentation of carbohydrates, or synthesized from acetaldehyde. Reagent Grade chemicals do not meet any accepted quality or purity requirements such as the ACS Grade, the USP Grade, and the FCC Grade, despite their acceptable purity.
