About Zinc Strips, 1cm x 1cm
Zinc metal possesses a grayish shiny appearance, has no odor, and is practically insoluble in water
at ambient conditions. It is brittle at ordinary temperatures and is found naturally in rocks, animals,
plants, soil, and volcanic dust/gases. It produces toxic Zinc Oxide fumes when heated to very high
temperatures or undergoes ignition. Its principal ore is named Sphalerite, which is a sulfide
derivative of Zinc. Metallic Zinc can be produced in two ways from its ore. The first method
involves the roasting of ore in the presence of air to produce Zinc Oxide, which is then heated with
Coke or Coal to around 1,100 °C producing metallic Zinc. The second method involves the
leaching of roasted Zinc Oxide with Sulfuric Acid, followed by electrolysis to produce Zinc Metal.
