About Tryptic Soy Agar
Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA), also known as Soybean-Casein Digest Agar, is a general-purpose medium used for the cultivation of both fastidious and non-fastidious aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms. It can be prepared with or without blood or other enrichments. When supplemented with 5–10% sterile defibrinated blood (commonly 5% sheep blood), TSA is useful for isolating pathogenic microorganisms and assessing hemolytic reactions, particularly in Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., and other pathogens from respiratory, blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and lesion specimens.
