Citric Acid, also known as 2-hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid, has the chemical formula C6H8O7 or CH2COOH-C(OH)COOH-CH2COOH. It appears as colorless, odorless crystals with an acid taste. It is very soluble in Water, Ethanol, and Ether at ambient conditions. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and fumes.
