It appears as pink to red monoclinic prismatic odorless crystals having good solubility in water at ambient conditions. It is not combustible but can undergo thermal decomposition to produce irritating or toxic fumes (or gases), like Sulfur Oxides. Moreover, it is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents causing fire and explosion hazard upon exposure.
