USP Grade Chemicals
Meets or exceeds standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia
USP is the same as pharmaceutical grade. USP stands for United States Pharmacopeia, a non-profit independent organization that dictates regulations for chemical purities and specifications. In the 1800s and early 1900s, there were no standards or regulations in place to ensure the identity and purity of medicines, supplements, and reagents. It was a dangerous set-up, and many patients died from what otherwise would have been life-saving pharmaceuticals. A group of physicians collaborated to form the US Pharmacopeia, which was then and still is independent of the government. Beginning in 1938, the US government declared that all medicines sold in the US must comply with USP standards. USP regulations are now recognized internationally.
