The Benefits of Magnesium [ Video From Willis-Knighton Health System]

High Quality Food (FCC) & Pharmaceutical Grade Magnesium Hydroxide

Food grade magnesium hydroxide is very pure. It is optimal for applications that specify an ultra-high purity material as well as a USP and EU 2000/63/EC certification. On dry basis, Magnesium Hydroxide, dried at 105°C for 2 hours, contains not less than 95.0% and not more than 100.5% of Mg(OH)2.

FCC Grade Magnesium Hydroxide is often used a component of antacids and laxatives. The FCC grade meets the requirements of the Food Chemical Codex and is suitable for all food, beverage and nutritional supplement applications.

Food Grade Magnesium Oxide is odorless and non-toxic and is used as a food additive for powder mix desiccant (drying agent), color retention, pH modification or as a magnesium supplement. Magnesium oxide adds dietary value in the form of the mineral magnesium in dietary supplements (i.e. vitamins). When added to food products, Food Grade Magnesium Oxide also helps control pH and maintain food color. In addition, Food Grade Magnesium Oxide keeps powdered foods, such as powder drink mixes, free-flowing as it acts as an anti-caking agent.

Food additives contribute to the overall appeal, convenience, nutritive value, and quality of foods. Food additives are substances added to food to preserve flavor or enhance its taste, appearance, or other qualities. Some additives have been used for centuries; for example, preserving food by pickling, salting, as with bacon, preserving sweets or using sulfur dioxide as with wines.

    Magnesium Hydroxide For Acne

Magnesium Hydroxide For Acne [Does Milk of Magnesia Treat Acne? - Verywell Health] Can Milk of Magnesia Reduce Oily Skin? One (rather old) study, published back in the '80s, shows that magnesium hydroxide is a darn good degreaser. So, hypothetically, it could break down the oil on the skin's surface leaving your skin looking more matte. Milk of magnesia doesn't reduce sebum production, though. Read more here.

Magnesium Oxide (MgO) Has Strong Antiviral Activity

The effect of the heating conditions of dolomite powder on its antiviral activity was studied against the H5N3 avian influenza virus. Calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO), obtained by the thermal decomposition of dolomite above 800 degrees C, were shown to have strong antiviral activity, but the effect was lessened when the heating temperature exceeded 1400 degrees C. Simultaneous measurement of the crystallite size suggested that the weakening of the activity was due to the considerable grain growth of the oxides. It was found that the presence of Mg in dolomite contributed to the deterrence of grain growth of the oxides during the heating process. Although both CaO and MgO exhibited strong antiviral activity, CaO had the stronger activity but quickly hydrated in the presence of water. On the other hand, the hydration of MgO took place gradually under the same conditions. Separate measurements using MgO and Mg(OH)2 revealed that MgO had a higher antiviral effect than Mg(OH)2. From the overall experiments, it was suggested that the strong antiviral activity of dolomite was related to the hydration reaction of CaO. Read more here.

Magnesium Hydroxide For Constipation [Magnesium Hydroxide: MedlinePlus Drug Information]

Magnesium hydroxide is used to treat occasional constipation in children and adults on a short-term basis. Magnesium hydroxide is in a class of medications called saline laxatives. In Vitro Anti-Foot-And-Mouth Disease Virus Activity of Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an extremely contagious viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals that can lead to huge economic losses in the livestock production. No antiviral therapies are available for treating FMD virus (FMDV) infections in animals. The antiviral effects of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO NPs) on the FMDV were investigated in cell culture. The viability of the cells after MgO NP treatment was determined using the MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] assay. The direct effects of MgO NPs on the FMDV in extracellular (virucidal assay) and also different stages of virus replication (antiviral assay) were evaluated by plaque reduction assay. The results showed that MgO NPs were safe at concentrations up to 250 µg/ml in the Razi Bovine kidney cell line. The treatments with NPs indicated that the MgO NPs exerted in vitro virucidal and antiviral activities. Plaque reduction assay revealed that MgO NPs can inhibit FMDV by more than 90% at the early stages of infection such as attachment and penetration but not after penetration. The results of this study suggested that NPs might be applied locally as an antiviral agent in early stages of infection in susceptible animals. Read more here.
